DNS can take time, and a half-propagated record will fail verification. Re-check from site settings instead of changing the record again out of impatience. Until verification succeeds, do not treat the custom domain as live. Publishing a month of posts to the platform host and then switching splits the URLs you just asked search engines to index. Wait, verify, then turn the cadence on. If verification keeps failing, the record is wrong or it has not propagated. Read the hostname you typed against the record you created before you generate more content.
From then on, indexing and the sitemap use your hostname, not a platform subdomain.
How it works
A custom domain keeps the blog on your brand. Readers, search engines, and AI assistants see your host, not a generic platform subdomain. You choose the blog hostname, add the CNAME at your DNS provider, and verify ownership. The hosted blog is then served on that domain with HTTPS.
Ranking equity and trust sit on the host you control. Articles, canonical URLs, and indexing submissions should use that hostname. Moving later is harder than connecting the domain before the schedule has published dozens of posts. SSL and the verified DNS record are part of the setup, so the URL you submit is the URL that loads.
Each site can have its own domain. An agency can put client blogs on client hosts. A company can put the English blog and the Dutch blog on the hosts those markets already know.
Point a subdomain at the hosted blog so every new article inherits the brand domain in search.
Give the Dutch site a Dutch host and the English site an English host, each with its own language and cadence.
Connect the domain, verify DNS, then let the schedule fill the host with indexable articles.
Your own domain is the host that indexing, the SEO checker, uptime monitoring, and audience insights all read. The writer publishes to it. WordPress is a different delivery path when the canonical site is WordPress itself.
Connect a subdomain and keep publishing in blogdat.ai.
