Cadence

Automated blog publishing

A schedule is a promise that a specific kind of page will exist on a date. It is not a promise that a model may say anything by then.

Publishing by hand does not make an article better. It only makes it slower. The slow part worth keeping is the decision. The fast part is creating the draft from an approved brief, placing it on the date, and sending the URL out to be crawled once a person has accepted it.

Teams turn automation on because a calendar has empty days. That inverts the work. Agree the subjects first. Then let the machine keep the promise.

A cadence that can run without embarrassing you

  1. 1

Pick an interval you can still read. For most sites that is weekly or a few times a month, not daily.

  2. 2

The subject comes from the site profile, a keyword you are tracking, or a slot you already named. Not from "surprise me."

  3. 3

The draft lands early enough that someone can reject it. A day before publish is a minimum when the topic can contain a factual claim.

  4. 4

Publish is a setting you choose per site. New sites stay on draft. Sites with a stable offer can publish the kinds of posts you have already approved in outline.

  5. 5

After publish, the URL should be reachable and included for discovery. A post that exists only inside the tool is not published.

What stays manual even when the switch is on

Anything that could be read as advice in medicine, law, tax, or money. Anything with a price, a limit, or a competitor's name. Anything that quotes a customer. The schedule can create the draft. A named person publishes it.

Also manual: killing a series. If three posts in a row needed a rewrite, the interval is ahead of your judgment. Turn publishing off and keep the drafts until the briefs get sharper.

Automation fails in a quiet way

  • The site publishes on time, so nobody notices the articles have drifted off the offer.
  • Two languages go out from a source that was never accepted, so the mistake is translated.
  • The homepage still describes last year's product, and the new posts describe a different one.
